On December 11, at the 2020 China International Energy Conference and International Energy Cooperation and Innovation Forum in Beijing, the International Energy Spot Trading Platform of the International Energy Exchange of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area was officially launched for trial operation. Currently, the platform supports spot trading of more than ten varieties of crude oil, natural gas, coal, refined oil, and fuel oil. On the same day, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area International Energy Exchange also established a comprehensive strategic partnership with the U.S. Center for Sustainable Development, striving to explore new areas of cooperation based on the digital transformation of energy.

Mitchell F. Stanley, Chairman of the Center for Sustainable Development of the United States, stated that the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area International Energy Exchange Center will become an important platform for promoting trade in goods and services between China and the United States, and achieve common prosperity and environment for China and the United States. Jiang Zengwei, the former chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, stated in his speech that China, as the world's largest energy importer, is playing an increasingly important role in the global energy field.

On December 7, the statistics released by the General Administration of Customs showed that from January to November, my country imported a total of 264.826 million tons of coal, a year-on-year decrease of 10.8%. In the same period, my country imported 504 million tons of crude oil, a year-on-year increase of 9.5%; imported natural gas was 90.436 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 3.92%.

Jiang Zengwei introduced that China maintains strong energy demand and has played an important role in stabilizing the global energy market. In recent years, China’s energy industry has achieved remarkable results. A green and diversified energy supply system is being established. The proportion of clean energy and renewable energy has increased significantly. Jiang Zengwei said that energy cooperation is a key area of global cooperation, the globalized international energy cooperation system is becoming more and more perfect, the "Belt and Road" energy cooperation has achieved fruitful results, and China's role and influence in the international energy arena is constantly increasing. However, my country's energy still faces challenges such as high dependence on imports, insufficient international voice, and overcapacity. This requires energy industry organizations to play a better role, build an international energy trading platform, introduce more abundant energy supply entities, lead industry enterprises to strengthen cooperation with other countries, and realize the win-win development of China's energy and world energy.

Di Jiankai, president of the China Petroleum Circulation Association, said that the epidemic has brought many uncertain factors to the global economy, but new opportunities will be cultivated in the crisis and new situations will be opened in the changing situation.
